What Is a Healthy BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a screening measure based on weight and height. For adults, BMI categories are commonly used to describe weight ranges, but BMI does not directly measure body fat.
Why BMI has limits
BMI cannot distinguish muscle from fat and does not describe where body fat is stored. Athletes and people with different body compositions may therefore need additional measures.
Use BMI as one data point
Consider BMI alongside other information such as waist measurements, body composition, lifestyle, and professional health advice when appropriate.
